The day America remembers the Vietnam Veterans has passed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pay your respects. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall has been created in second life for you to visit HERE. Regardless of your moral or political views on war, a visit to The Wall is one of remembrance for those who have fallen.
Here is a quote from the website for the wall that expresses the reason it was built:
“A fundamental purpose behind this Second Life build was to help provide a form of accessibility for those who are unable to experience the real life memorial due to time constraints, insufficient means or ability. In addition, we endeavored to communicate the history and existence of this significant memorial to current and future generations in an innovative and relevant manner.”
The Wall has the names of 58, 223 people that were killed or went missing. If you know anyone that has their name on The Wall, there is a search capability that will help you locate the position of the name on the wall. You can leave flowers or flags next to the wall for the fallen soldiers. Also at the build you can visit the two recreated statues, The 3 Servicemen Statue and the Vietnam Veterans Women’s Statue.
There is also a wonderful companion website you can find at http://www.thewallsl.com.
My Uncle fought in the Vietnam War and my mother was a nurse in the Army during the war. I thought the memorial was wonderfully done. Having lost someone close to me in the Iraq War and having a lot of family members who have been in this war, Veteran’s Day takes on a different meaning.
